It is however true, that the aroma, appearance, and even the taste of the wine is enhanced through using the proper wine crystal glass.</p>
<p>The oldest wine glass with a stem and foot that are fifteenth century enamel glass holds more than four ounces of liquid. Near the end of the sixteenth century in Germany, wine glasses were etched as decoration. France introduced fine wine crystal glasses at the end of the eighteenth century.</p>
<p>Wine crystal glasses were frequently fabricated in sets of dozen during the nineteenth century, each set for burgundy and claret, port and sherry, liqueur glasses, and champagne glasses. In the 1950&#8242;s, Reidel Crystal and some other manufacturers advanced the design of wine crystal glasses with unique shape and sizes for nearly all wine variant.</p>
<p>When choosing wine crystal glasses, always remember to first select a plain crystal glass to accent your best wines. Do without colored or even those wine crystal glasses that have tinted bases or stems. One of the most essential things to consider when choosing a wine crystal glass is the way aromas are captured within the wine glass. Glasses with a wide bowl that narrow toward the mouth will allow more room for swirling and the narrow mouth channels the aroma to the nostrils efficiently, unlike large glass openings that disperse aroma rapidly.</p>
<p>Red wines are usually served in larger glasses than white wine because they need more space to develop and breathe, but take note that a wine crystal glass can never be too large. Sparkling wines should be provided in thin glasses with straight side so that the bubble is retained. An all-purpose wine glass has been developed by the California Wine Institute. The wine glass is a five and a half-inch tall glass with one and three quarter-inch stem, with a tulip-shaped bowl that holds a capacity of up to eight ounces.</p>
<p>How to set wine glasses at dinner is also a consideration when serving different types of wine all through the course. Wine glasses should be positioned in the right order they are to be used and right to left. Starting with tall stemmed glass for white wines, followed by big wine glasses for red wine, and ending in short smaller glasses for sherry or port, may be a good idea.</p>
<p>Always remember that regardless the type of wine served, the right wine crystal glass will enhance the features of the wine and will allow a more enjoyable wine drinking.</p>

Custard was known in English Cuisine at least as early as the fourteenth century. One of the most popular and quintessential English Custard&#8217;s is &#8220;Birds Custard Powder&#8221; which I reccomend to any cook who wants to make the perfect English custard.<br />
The first reference to custard in England was as almond milk or almond cream In a history of the Abbey of Croyland, England, Laurence Chateres in 1413. It contained almonds, thick milk, water, salt and sugar.<br />
Not all custards are sweet. A quiche is a savoury custard tart. Some kinds of timbale or vegetable loaf are made of a custard base mixed with chopped savoury ingredients. Custard royale is a thick custard cut into decorative shapes and used to garnish soup or broth.<br />
Bird&#8217;s Custard (a brand name) is the original version of what is known generically as custard powder. It is a cornflour-based powder which thickens to form a custard-like sauce when mixed with milk and heated to a sufficient temperature. Bird&#8217;s Custard was first formulated and first cooked by Alfred Bird in 1837, because his wife was allergic to eggs the key ingredient used to thicken traditional custard.<br />
In some regions of the United Kingdom the popularity of this type of dessert is such that it is simply known as &#8220;custard.&#8221; In such cases, general usage of the word may be more likely to refer to the &#8220;Bird&#8217;s&#8221; custard rather than to the traditional egg-based variety.<br />
In recent years, &#8220;instant&#8221; versions (containing powdered milk and sugar and requiring only hot water) and ready-made custard in tins and cartons have also become popular.<br />
A food and drink survey carried out in 2000 found 99% of customers recognised the brand which accounts for 45% of the custard consumed in the UK. Bird&#8217;s Custard is also exported to several countries around the world, including the United States, where it is popular among several ethnic groups. Many ethnic and specialty stores across the United States sell the product. In Canada Bird&#8217;s Custard can often be found in many popular grocery supermarkets.<br />
In addition to the Bird&#8217;s brand, generic cornflour-based custards are widely available.<br />
&#8220;English Custard&#8221;<br />
 <br />
Ingredients</p>
<p>1/3 cup sugar<br />
2-3 egg yolks<br />
1 teaspoon flour<br />
1 1/2 cups milk<br />
1 piece vanilla bean<br />
 <br />
Method</p>
<p>Work up sugar and egg yolks with a wooden spoon until smooth and creamy. Add flour. Scald milk and vanilla bean together and then add egg yolk mixture to it, little by little. Return to saucepan and cook slowly, stirring constantly until it comes to the boiling point. Do not allow to boil. Remove vanilla bean. Cool, stirring vigorously at first and then from time to time to prevent crust from forming on top. Serve cold or a little warm. Other flavoring may be used. For coffee flavor use 1/2top milk and 1/2 strong coffee, for chocolate flavor add grated chocolate to taste to hot milk. Serves to to 3.</p>

Quarantine of Mexican nationals<br />
China has recent experience of epidemics that could have easily become pandemics. Bird flu (Influenzavirus A H5N1) seems to come and go with the migration of wild birds through China and so far has only affected humans with direct contact to the birds. The birds are ducks, geese, chicken and turkeys. Scientists keep on warning that it will only take a minor variation in the virus to make it become an epidemic and then a pandemic. Every year there are waves of avian flu that strike in different part of China and the Far East.<br />
SARS spread through Hong Kong and other parts of China because the authorities were too slow to react when the infection started to kill people.<br />

When a hospital in Hong Kong was faced with a Mexican national who was suffering from Mexican flu (often called Swine flu) then their pandemic preparation came into force. They put the Mexican into isolation and they put the hotel he had checked into quarantine. There were over 250 people in the hotel and the authorities put them into quarantine for a week.<br />
Is that overkill or a prepared reaction from Medical Authorities?<br />
Stopping of flights to and from Mexico<br />
After a Mexican flew from Mexico to Shanghai and then took a connecting flight to Hong Kong, all seemed well.<br />
 The problem is that the Mexican was infected with Mexican flu (swine flu). The Chinese government decided that the threat was too great and would stop the flights from Mexico to Shanghai. Consider how many people were on the flight from Mexico and those that he encountered and infected in Shanghai Airport and finally those on all the connecting flights from Shanghai. I think the response of the Chinese government was measured and calculated.<br />
The complaints simply are a reflection of the problems that the Mexican Medical Authorities allowed to continue. If they had moved in time then the reaction of the Chinese authorities would not have been necessary.<br />
Stop whining.</p>

Just follow this fast and easy recipe and before you know it, you&#8217;ll forget all about the ice and snow outside your window.<br />
Ingredients you&#8217;ll require:<br />
1 pound stew beef<br />
1 tablespoon flour<br />
1 medium onion (chopped)<br />
1 package beef stew seasoning<br />
3 cups water<br />
5 medium potatoes (cubed)<br />
6 carrots (peeled and sliced)<br />
1 tablespoon parsley flakes<br />
2 cloves garlic (chopped)<br />
Tablespoon cooking oil<br />
Salt and pepper to taste<br />
Cooking your stew:<br />
Flour your stew meat<br />
Heat cooking oil in a stew pot, then add stew meat, onions and garlic, and brown<br />
Add water and beef stew seasoning<br />
Add potatoes, carrots, salt, pepper and parsley flakes<br />
Cook over medium heat for approximately 1 hour, stirring often<br />
You&#8217;re done! Could that have been any easier?<br />
Serve your delicious beef stew with your favourite crusty bread and a nice glass of red wine, or any beverage of your choice. You can also spice up your stew, if you like, by adding some chopped red chillies or a few drops of Tabasco sauce.<br />

<p>A key point to add at this stage is the difference between organically grown grapes &#8211; fruit from vineyards grown without the use of industrial fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides and pesticides &#8211; and wines made without synthetic preservative additives.</p>
<p>Organic Vineyards &#8212; Where it all begins!</p>
<p>An organic vineyard is one where grapes are grown without chemical fertilizers, weed killers, insecticides, or other synthetic chemicals. This prevents damage to soil and ensures that no chemicals end up in the wine as residue. Organic farmers aim to maintain healthy, biologically active soil whose fertility is provided by plants that fix nitrogen from the air. In the vineyard it means planting cover crops between the avenues of the vines instead of applying herbicide. Naturally occurring plant or mineral extracts leave no residue in the soil, and weeds are kept down with the use of mechanical and hand hoes. <p>For some reason, the weather gods decided today that Dallas had gone too long without a crippling cold front. That equated to every street and sidewalk being encased in 2&#8243; of solid ice and temperatures hovering around 20 degrees Fahrenheit. </p>
<p>I&#8217;m originally from St. Louis, MO, where that&#8217;s par for the course. That probably wouldn&#8217;t even equal a snow day for us. However, Dallas shut down. Our museum touring plans were shot for the day, but we did find warming solace in RJ&#8217;s Mexican Cuisine, a nicely-appointed downtown restaurant. We bundled into what few layers and hats we&#8217;d brought with us, hacked the ice off the windshield with a rubber mallet I had stored in my trunk, and slowly made our way the mile and a half to downtown.</p>
<p>Most of the city stayed home, so we had the place to ourselves. As much as she tried, our server spoke really spotty English, so specifying our vegetarian wants was a challenge. But we wound up with a nice, satisfying meal; I had enchiladas with tangy sour cream dressing and tomatillo sauce with grilled vegetables, and Kat went with the Chile Rellenos. Though the type was not specified, the cheese was a white Mexican melting cheese, landing somewhere around a Chihuahua or asadero. Good stuff. The manager even came over at one point to check that we&#8217;d were happy, which we were. Nice people, nice place.</p>
<p>Slip-sliding our way back to the car, we opted to spend the rest of the day near home base. Our meager Sheraton lay in the shadows of the posh behemoth, the Hilton Anatole. About five years ago I helped put on a conference there, and after a few hours of cabin fever, I was ready to brave the quickly-dropping temperatures and trudge across the street for a drink and see it again.</p>
<p>The mammoth Anatole is split into two disparate yet connected buildings. We walked the quarter mile through the Atrium area to the Tower, which housed the swanky Gossip Bar. Walking through the rows of rich crimson leather booth seats and dramatic lighting overhead, we were again the only ones in the place. A mini bottle of Kenwood sparkling wine at $10 each was a steal for the place, which boasted single cocktails averaging closer to $15 a piece.</p>
<p>We grabbed a quick bite to go from Media Grill + Bar, the hopping, dimly lit restaurant back in the center section of the complex. Mixed reactions on this end; I ordered a mozzarella/provolone grilled cheese with onion marmalade and butternut squash bisque. The seemingly simple request took about 25 minutes to make, and when we got back to the room and opened it up, they&#8217;d left out the soup. However, it was indeed one of the better $20 grilled cheeses I&#8217;ve had in my life. And to see the Anatole again was justification enough.</p>
<p>None of it, however, came close to measuring up to the tube of Pillsbury Chocolate Chip Cookie dough we&#8217;d picked up earlier in the day. Between that and the weather, sometimes you can go home again.</p>
